Today we woke up pretty late and ate a breakfast of bread and cheese. Around noon, we got in the car to visit Antwerp, the nearest city to our house and the home of my Dad's old university. Our first stop was a small castle right next to Scheldt river (a river that runs through Antwerp). The castle was originally built to ward off Viking attacks but has been rebuilt since.
There is a statue of a giant in front of the castle. Legend has it that this Giant used to terrorize ships in the Scheldt river until a boy cut off his hand and throw it into the Scheldt.
After the castle, we grabbed some lunch. My dad had mussels and I had prawns and a waffle for dessert underneath one of the Antwerp cathedrals.

After eating we visited the Cathedral:

There was a great string quartet playing outside of the cathedral. I really wanted to buy their CD, but my Dad talked me out of it.
After we took some more pictures of Antwerp:
After Anterwerp, we returned home to recuperate for another big day tomorrow.

I bet your mom is licking her lips by seeing that huge waffle! Last time I met her in Brasschaat we had TWO waffles with DOUBLE cream !(remember Cathy??)
ReplyDeleteAntwerp is a great city. Hope you like Gent as well! See you tomorrow!
